Colombia has been working in the preparation stages of REDD strategy and welcomes the GSF as an opportunity to enhance conservation and REDD+ activities. GSF is considered by Colombia as an instrument to protect biodiversity and contribute towards poverty reduction and natural resources management through the implementation of assessment methodologies and payment for environmental services.

 The Colombia Project “Strengthening governance of indigenous communities for conservation of environment and biodiversity” was recommended by the Regional Advisory Board of the GSF and approved by UNDP on 15 March 2012. Alexander von Humboldt Institute, a specialized State agency responsible for

biodiversity research, ACATISEMA, the management entity for the Matavén forests and UNDP Colombia are collaborating to implement the project, which aims to achieve the following overall results (stated in Spanish):

Result 1 - La capacidad de gestión del Comité Coordinador y de la Junta de representantes de sector de Acatisema se ha incrementado para planificar y ejecutar las políticas, programas y proyectos para el uso y manejo sostenible del territorio y los recursos naturales.

Result 2- Propuesta de mejoramiento y fortalecimiento de Acatisema construida participativamente.

Result 3 - Estrategias de conservación y uso sostenible de la biodiversidad desarrolladas a partir de la base de información de medios de vida tradicionales y sus mecanismos de economía local.
